Revolutionary? Maybe because it was one of the first Hollywood films that portrayed Indians? There was nothing revolutionary in this film not even the cinematography. It deserved the Academy Award for Cinematography, I’ll agree on that but even the cinematography wasn’t all that amazing. A few good shots here and there.

Dances With Wolves is not a perfect film. But it was revolutionary in the portrayal of native Americans. And that cinematography… wow!
I could watch Dances With Wolves repeatedly just for those images. Just beautiful, completely natural.
