Thanks for taking the time to post these film stills. I use your site often as a reference to get ideas for my own projects.
Recently rented this film(because I saw it on your blog) and loved it! The muted colors really captured the depression of the time for me. When I was watching, I just couldn’t help but wonder, how difficult would it be to get this look if you were shooting on video? There are just some things film still can do that video can not.
Yeah. I love the color palette too. I think you could get pretty close shooting digitally though.
I almost feel like its a stylistic color scheme that people could achieve, but just choose go for something else entirely. Everyone seems to be pretty enamored with the whole teal/orange scene these days. I mean Scorsese even used it on his last film “Hugo”.
The colors reminded me of a film I saw more recently “Never let me go”. Check it out. http://evanerichards.com/2011/2312 “Army of Shadows” has cooler tones overall and “Never Let me Go” is warmer, but they have very similar color palettes. “Never Let Me Go” was also shot on film btw 馃檪
Thanks for uploading in HD. Makes it twice as beautiful. As I’ve said, Foreign Language Films never get the recognition they deserve. This film would have easily earned a nomination at the 1969 Academy Awards for Cinematography had it been American.

Nice images. They looked way ahead of their time.
