Very symbolic cinematography. Must have been one of Hall’s most difficult films to shoot. Despite being a drama film which focuses more on the script and acting than the art direction or the costumes and having to work mostly with everyday objects that didn’t stop him for creating such beautiful imagery.
Yeah, it’s one thing to light and shoot an old western gold-mining town, or a post apocalyptic landscape or a fantasy forest scene and make them look visually compelling, but I suspect it is much more difficult to find beauty in regular buildings and objects we see every day.
