    1. This is difficult. But I think I’d go with Across the Universe. While I totally recognize the skill and technical prowess of the cinematography of most of Fincher’s work, they all seem to have this quality that I can’t quite put my finger on. This crisp, antiseptic image with robotic camera movements, very little handheld camera…it’s almost too perfect. Maybe it’s like CG where if it’s too clean and perfect it just doesn’t read as realistic. I think Fincher’s obsession with controlling every aspect of his films hurts him when it comes to cinematography.
