Once again the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences failed to recognize the work in a foreign language film. Foreign Language Films rarely get the recognition they deserve and this film was no exception. The remarkable blending of colors and camera movement in this film should have guaranteed an Oscar nomination for Cinematography.

Such splendid cinematography in this movie. I love the angled photography, the water droplets, the use of reflection, the rich shades of reds, yellows, aqua, crimson and mauve landscapes contrasting with the black, brown and grey used in the weaponry & fighting scenes.

How is it that Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon won a cinematography oscar, House of Flying Daggers was nominated…but Hero got nothing?

I’ve heard from a fellow cinematographer that Hollywood doesn’t like Doye and Doyle himself hates Hollywood. You never know.
